Moving the Windows Kernel to Memory

Scott AC8DE described this procedure on the FlexRadio reflector as a way to reduce latency on Windows 7 systems. The same procedure is described here as a way to improve Windows XP performance.

  1. create a System Restore Point

  2. start the Windows Registry Editor

  3. navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management

  1. Right-click the DisablePagingExecutive item and select the Modify menu item

  2. In the Edit DWORD dialog box, change the value to 1

  3. Click the OK button
