Getting Started with SKY-SDR Transceiver Control
before connecting your SKY-SDR transceiver to one of your PC's USB ports use the Windows Control Panel to open the Device Manager, and use the Device Manager to determine which COM ports are already present
- connect your SKY-SDR transceiver to one of your PC's USB ports using a standard USB A-B cable
direct the Device Manager to refresh its display of COM ports, and identify the new COM port created when you connected to your SKY-SDR to your PC
configure Windows to not automatically power down the new COM port
run Commander, and click the Config button on its Main window to open its Configuration window
in Commander's Configuration window, select the General tab and then set the Radio panel's Model selector to Kenwood; note that your SKY-SDR emulates a Kenwood TS-2000, so that is what will appear in the title bar of Commander's Main window
in Commander's Configuration window select the Ports tab; in the Primary CAT Serial Port panel,
set the Port# selector to the COM port identified in step 3 above
select the baud rate to 9600, parity to N, word length to 8, and stop bits to 1.
set the RTS selector to TX, and the DTR selector to Off
- on the Configuration window's General tab,
check the Continuous Frequency and Mode Interrogation box
set the Continuous Frequency and Mode Interrogation interval to 200 ms; after everything is working correctly, try reducing the Command interval to 100 ms, and then to 50 ms)
- On Commander's Main window
the VFO panel should reflect changes you make to your radio's frequency via its front panel
the Mode panel should reflect changes you make to your radio's mode via its front panel
Modifying the VFO panel's frequency display contents and striking the Enter key will radio's primary VFO to the specified frequency; see Changing Frequency for information about the other ways you can change transceiver frequency from the VFO panel
Clicking the Mode panel's buttons should change your transceiver's mode; see Changing Mode for additional information
Clicking the Bandspread button will display a Bandspread window; see Bandspread Window for additional information.
